SSWC Ireland 2011

We were all very excited to be attending our first Worlds.
This years Singlespeed world cup was held in Ireland at the superb ballyhoura trails. We rode the course Friday and found it surprisingly easy, long fireroads and some rocky climbs but nothing too taxing, great swoopy descents again not too technical with some slippy board walk sections thrown in for fun!
Kilfinane, Co. Limerick had a great atmosphere, only a small village which was also hosting a music festival at the same time, the locals were very friendly and very accommodating.
There were 22 countries represented including: England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, New Zealand, South Africa, Israel,Germany, France, America, Canada, Australia.
We rode out from Kilfinane Sunday afternoon, lots of friendly banter and some great costumes, including scooby-doo, the tinman, and guy in his pants!
We all loved the course but very disappointed that there was no beer stop on course, surely you can’t have a SSWC course without a beer stop? Everyone had a great time riding and a couple got married mid ride!
This years winner was an Irish guy, Niall Davies closely followed by last years winner New zealander Garth Weinberg and the female winner was an American girl Heather Holmes, both received tattoos! Heather’s was quite a large one on the back of her arm and Niall had a cheeky little number on his arse.
South Africa won the right to host next years Worlds so maybe time to start saving!
Great event worth all the effort, the riding was top, but we were all a little disappointed with value for money as everything was extra, camping, showers, no evening meal and no bloody free beer!
